Alberta's Choice recruits volunteer scrutineers ahead of October 19 referendum
Alberta's Choice, a registered referendum third-party advertiser, is building a province-wide team of volunteer scrutineers to observe voting and counting at polling locations on October 19.
Alberta's Choice, a registered referendum third-party advertiser with Elections Alberta, is recruiting volunteer scrutineers to observe voting and counting at polling locations across the province for the October 19, 2026 referendum.
Scrutineers are trained volunteers who can verify ballot boxes are empty before polls open, observe voting from open to close, view voting records, challenge ineligible electors, observe ballot counting, and object to how ballots are counted — all while remaining strictly non-partisan while on duty. Applicants must be eligible Alberta electors with a clean record under election law over the past 10 years, and will be formally appointed through Alberta's Choice, take an Oath of Secrecy, and follow the official Code of Conduct.
