Can't vote in person on October 19? Request a special ballot
Any eligible Alberta elector can request a special ballot to vote by mail in the October 19 referendum — no reason required — and the deadline to request one has been moved up to September 25.
If you can't make it to a polling place on October 19, you can still make your vote count in the referendum. Any eligible Alberta elector can request a special ballot and vote by mail — no reason is required.
A special ballot is the way to go if you'll be working out of town, travelling, away from Alberta, or otherwise unable to comfortably vote in person on referendum day. It's also worth passing along to friends and family who may be away.
Keep two deadlines in mind: September 25 is the last day to request a special ballot — Elections Alberta moved this up from October 9 because of high demand — and your completed ballot must be received by 5:00 p.m. on October 16.
