Lukaszuk calls for donations from 'across Canada'

Forever Canadian leader Thomas Lukaszuk has publicly called on Canadians outside Alberta to donate to his group, saying campaign money matters. "If you don't want to lose Alberta, if you have family and friends in Alberta... send some money to a campaign like ours," Lukaszuk said during a recent interview on The OShow, urging listeners to call relatives in Alberta and insist they vote.

The appeal sits awkwardly next to Alberta's Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act, which prohibits registered third-party advertisers from receiving contributions from people who aren't ordinary residents of Alberta. Forever Canadian is registered as a referendum TPA with Elections Alberta but has disclosed no contributions, arguing it is campaigning for Canadian unity rather than the referendum itself.

Lukaszuk said the group has distributed over 70,000 lawn signs and is planning free public concerts in Calgary and Edmonton, directing donors to forever-canadian.ca. He said he will personally vote for Alberta to remain in Canada, but wants a high turnout in the referendum regardless of how people vote.
