Vote-by-Mail Applications Now Open for October 19 Referendum
Albertans can now apply for a special mail-in ballot ahead of the October 19 referendum on 10 questions, including Alberta separation.
Eligible voters can now apply to vote by mail in Alberta's October 19 referendum, which will ask Albertans to weigh in on 10 questions covering separation, immigration, and constitutional matters. Chief electoral officer Gordon McClure said the special ballot option gives voters flexibility, noting "with 10 questions, some electors may want extra time to review the questions and voting by mail lets them do that on their own schedule."
Albertans can apply online, by emailing Elections Alberta, or by contacting their electoral division's returning office starting September 21. Special ballot packages begin mailing September 1, with in-person pickup available at the Elections Alberta head office starting the same day. Vote-by-mail applications close October 9, and completed ballots must be received by mail before 5 p.m. on October 16 — returning offices will not accept them in person.
Advance voting runs October 13–17, and election day voting runs 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on October 19.
