What independence would look like, according to Alberta Prosperity Project
The Alberta Prosperity Project released a 54-page discussion paper, Foundation of Freedom, proposing a directly elected president, a constitutional right to carry firearms, and strict limits on taxation and spending for a future independent Alberta.
The Alberta Prosperity Project has released a discussion paper outlining what a future independent Alberta could look like. The 54-page document, titled Foundation of Freedom, proposes a directly elected president, a constitutional right to carry firearms, and strict limits on taxation and government spending.
The group says the paper isn't meant as a finished constitution, but rather to put ideas in front of Albertans ahead of a possible constitutional conference following independence. Mitch Sylvestre, leader of the Alberta Prosperity Project, said it could become "one of many sources of ideas" at such a conference, while acknowledging significant issues remain unresolved. The group is inviting Albertans, including critics, to review the document and give feedback.
